Spencer Merrell

Writer, Editor, Creative

In 2001, when I was thirteen, a friend gave me a challenge.

“Spencer,” they said, “you’re always reading. Have you ever considered writing a book instead?”

I hadn’t. I didn’t know I could become someone who could——with a few keystrokes——create vast new worlds to explore.

So I began to gobble up books, hoard writing advice manuals, and carry a notepad with me everywhere I went.

I gained something fundamental: a deep love of the written word and the imaginative capacity to do things with it.

I’ve been a writer ever since.

I joined writer forums and learned techniques and the industry. I enrolled as an English major and took creative writing classes.

I’ve been in numerous writing groups and communities. During grad school, I taught writing and rhetoric to over a hundred freshmen. And now I help staff a creative writing conference.

I know a thing or two about writers and their needs. Want to hire me as an editor? I’m always interested in expanding my clientele.
